syncVUE compressor presets

We get a lot of compliments on the quality of the demo clips that we use at tradeshows and on our website. Consequently, many people have asked us what compression engine and settings we used to create them.

All of our clips were compressed using Apple's "Compressor" software, and to make it easy for those who use this program to easily get the same results, we've created a set of Compressor "presets" that you can use "right out of the box" so to speak. To use them, follow the steps below:

  1. Download the syncVUE Compressor presets here.

  2. When the archive unzips, drag the "syncVUE" folder to:

(Your Log-in Name > Library Support > Application Support > Compressor).

This adds the syncVUE presets to Compressor's library.

  3. From Final Cut Pro, right-click on the sequence you wish to compress, then select:

    (Export > Using Compressor)

  4. When Compressor launches, your sequence will be in the "Batch" window (if you can't see the Batch window, select it from the "Window" menu).

  5. From the "Presets" window, open the "Custom" folder, then open the "syncVUE" folder (if you can't see the Presets window, select it from the "Window" menu).

  6. Find the desired syncVUE compression you wish to use and drag it to the Batch window row that contains your sequence.

syncVUE Compressor Presets

  • syncVUE, H.264, 720x405 Anamorphic, AAC-48K (faster)
Works with any frame-rate or format, but ideal for anamorphically squeezed 16:9 material (like Digital Betacam 16:9). Data rate is about 1 Mb/s (megabits), which works out to about 7.3 MB (megabytes) per minute of compressed video.

  • syncVUE, H.264, 720x405 Anamorphic, AAC-48K (slower)
Same as above but performs two compression passes to improve video quality at the expense of speed.

  • syncVUE, H.264, 720x486, AAC-48K (faster)
Works with any frame-rate or format, but ideal for standard 4:3 material. Data rate is about 1 Mb/s (megabits), which works out to about 7.3 MB (megabytes) per minute of compressed video.

  • syncVUE, H.264, 720x486, AAC-48K (slower)
Same as above but performs two compression passes to improve video quality at the expense of speed.

  • syncVUE, H.264, Same as Source, AAC-48K (faster)
Works with any frame-rate or format. The data rate is identical to the presets above but video image size will be identical to that of your sequence, meaning if your sequence is 1920x1080, your compressed file with be the same size. Take into account that larger sequence image sizes will force more compression into the 1 Mb/s limit, which will degrade image quality.

  • syncVUE, MPEG-4, 720x405 Anamorphic, AAC-48K (QT6)
Use this for those clients who have NOT upgraded to QT v7.0 or higher. Works with 29.97fps anamorphically squeezed 16:9 material (like Digital Betacam 16:9). Data rate is about 1 Mb/s (megabits), which works out to about 7.3 MB (megabytes) per minute of compressed video.
